AdWords
Dominator FAQ's
Here are some of the more common FAQ’s.
Q. Will AdWords Dominator work on a Mac?
A. AdWords Dominator is for Windows Operating Systems although it should work with
most PC Emulation Software on Mac.
Q. Will you be offering free upgrades for future releases?
A. We will be charging for future upgrade releases with extra features but will
continue to support any technical issues that arise with Google from time to time
to make sure you keep running.
Q. How does AdWords Dominator connect to Google?
A. AdWords Dominator uses the Google AdWords API. When you get your copy of AdWords
Dominator you need to get an API key from Google and then you will be able to access
your account directly.
Q: What does access to the Google AdWords API cost?
A. Access to Google's AdWords API is free at time of writing but Google have announced
that as of 2006 they will charge for API useage at the rate of $0.25c per 1000 requests.
Q: What is an API anyway?
A. API stands for Application Programming Interface. It is a way of making data
available in a controlled and safe fashion so that developers can use that data
to make better programs.
Q. Can using this program hurt my account or interfere with my Ad performance?
A. No. All this program does is to take information from Google and put it on your
desktop. You retain complete control over what goes into your account. The only
difference being, instead of using Google's interface, you are using AdWords Dominator.
Q: Why don't I see anything in the History panel?
A: The History panel holds ad changes but this is a feature of Adwords Dominator
and not Adwords, so you have make to make changes to ads in Adwords Dominator. After
you change an ad, upload it to Google Adwords, and then click on ad in Ads panel,
and you'll see old ad in the History panel. Your history will build as you use AdWords
Dominator.
Q: How does Adwords Dominator actually work?
A: Adwords Dominator uses two types of data, and both of them are retrieved from
Google. The First type of data is retrieved using the Google Adwords API, and contains
data about Campaigns, AdGroups, Keywords and Ads. It actually downloads your structure
and data like names of Campaigns/AdGroups, daily budget, Geo and Language targeting
and so on. It does not include performance data for your account (for example number
of clicks on certain ad for certain day). This is retrieved by using reports. This
is another Google feature.
Adwords Dominator schedules a report for download using Google Adwords API, and
then downloads that report, and this way it retrieves all performance data for your
account, so it can display charts and so on.
The First type of data is stored into file called AdwordsDominator.data, and second
type of data is stored in the firebird database, more precisely file named Reports.gdb.
Q: What is firebird and why must I install it?
A: Firebird is a free database, which Adwords Dominator uses for storing your historical
data which is retrieved from Google. This is why you must install it. Adwords will
not run properly without firebird installed.
Q: What files does ADWD use?
A: Reports.gdb: This is firebird database file, which holds your historical data
AdwordsDominator.data: This is the file which holds Campaign/AdGroup/Keywords/Ads
data from your account. It also holds ad history data, so you should backup this
file regularly.
AdwordsDominator.opt: This is the file which holds your settings.
Layout.txt: Size of your windows is stored in this file.
Q: What's does faster editing under settings mean?
A: Adwords Dominator makes your work more efficient. Usually when you create a new
campaign, you will want to create a new AdGroup. When you create new AdGroup you
will probably want to create new Ad.
Adwords Dominator is clever, and will for example automatically open a new AdGroup
after you create a new Campaign. Also when you open new Ad dialog, it will prefill
your ad with last created ad (it assumes that you will probably want to make just
a small change to last created ad).
Q: I have two or more Adwords accounts, can I manage both (all) of them?
A: Yes. Version 2 has full multiple account handling functionality. You can run
AdWords Dominator 2 with both individual or My Client Centre accounts – perfect
for professional marketers or account managers.
